Mike Sonnier
Cisco Systems

Mike Sonnier joined Cisco systems in 1997 and currently holds the role of distinguished systems engineer. His focus is on VoIP services and deployments. In this role, he has worked with many industry-leading and revolutionary VoIP carriers throughout many areas of the industry. 

Prior to joining Cisco, Mike spent eight years working in the Bell system, including time at Bellcore (now Telcordia) and BellSouth. During that time, he played an instrumental role in defining early Advanced Intelligent Network standards, and participated in and co-chaired SS7 AIN standards working groups.

Sonnier has spoken on VoIP related topics at a number of industry trade groups and forums including Supercomm, Comptel-Ascent, Opastco, NTCA, International Engineering Consortium and Networkers. He has consulted extensively on both business and technical issues around VoIP-based service provider offerings.

He received a bachelor of science, electrical engineering in 1987 from the University of Louisiana Lafayette, where he graduated as valedictorian and received his master of science in computer engineering from Rutgers University in 1989. He earned his Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert certification in 1999.
